Cigna Coverage Availability & Fees
Cigna offers multiple dental insurance plans, which vary greatly in their details. You should set aside a bit of time to learn about the ins and outs of your unique policy so you can understand how it works.
In the meantime, here is a basic overview of the coverage that is available through some Cigna plans:
- Preventive services, including routine checkups and cleanings, are often 100% covered.
- Minor services, like fillings, are frequently up to 80% covered.
- Major services, such as crowns, dentures, and some types of oral surgery, are often around 50% covered.
Your plan may also have a deductible and a waiting period before you can use your insurance for restorative treatments.
Additionally, keep in mind that it is standard for Cigna to place an annual maximum on their PPO plans. This yearly spending limit can affect your out-of-pocket costs, so it is important that you keep it in mind when you are planning your treatments. Our team can assist you with this. As an in-network Cigna dentist, we have a contract that controls fees, so you may be able to get more value from your maximum when you visit us (as opposed to an out-of-network care provider). In some cases, we can even schedule major treatments between calendar years so you can use two annual maximums instead of only one.
The annual maximum on Cigna plans is usually between $1,000 and $3,000.
